The Shore Center: Technology

The Shore Center: Technology

The explosion of technology in all our lives has had no less affect on education. There are many nationally recognized computer software programs for use by students with autism. From iPads to Macs to PCs these programs added to touch screens and other input devices make a dramatic difference in the life of a child with autism.

The "New Jersey Shore Town"

We are trying to re-create a New Jersey Shore Town to provide our students with true life experiences. A “Shore Diner” is currently under construction with Atlantic City push cart replica diner booths adorned with real bicycle wheels. The diner will serve as both a lunch room and as a life-skills room where students will participate in cooking and food preparation lessons.

The Shore Center Signage

Our school needs a new sign outside our building at 100 Tornillo Way in Tinton Falls. The building actually faces Shafto road, a very heavily traveled Monmouth County road. In addition, smaller signs are needed throughout the property to guide our buses, parents, and visitors.

The Shore Center Summer Camp

The Shore Center Summer Camp

The word “summer” alone conjures up images of carefree days spent playing with friends all day long. Students with autism spend a different summer day. The Shore Center students participate in a half-day extended school year program. They receive instruction and related services such as speech, occupational and/or physical therapy. Although extremely important for their continued development, this four week summer program does not provide many of those “carefree” activities you and I may have enjoyed in our childhood.
